About Me

I am a business lawyer and China consultant who left a large national law firm as partner to focus exclusively on assisting clients with their China-related business needs. I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and my wife is from Shanghai.

I grew up in New Milford, Connecticut, and first went to China in 1987 as a junior in Providence College. I have spent more than four years since then living, studying, and working in Beijing, Shanghai, and Taipei. I received my M.A. in East Asian Language and Literature from the University of Hawaii and my J.D. from Vanderbilt University. I also spent several years studying at the Beijing Capital Normal University and the National Taiwan Normal University.

I have been practicing law for 20 years. As a lawyer I have drafted and negotiated joint venture agreements, license agreements, consulting agreements, manufacturing agreements, confidentiality and non-competition agreements, supply contracts, and various other documents for businesses with operations in China. As a consultant I have assisted with partnership negotiations, distribution arrangements, sourcing and manufacturing projects, trade shows, and numerous other China-related matters. I spend much of the year traveling throughout China assisting my U.S. and China-based clients.

When I am in China and the meetings are over, I grab my camera and head out to capture the sights that I wish my friends and family could see. I am posting a few pictures on this site in the hopes that you might enjoy them, too.
