This is my second Chinese home. It did not particularly impress me 20 years ago; that feeling has changed. I have pictures of Shanghai taken in the Waitan area from my first few visits. At the time, Waitan was considered the only place in the city worthy of a picture. Across the Huangpu River (now the Pudong area) there was not a light to be seen after dark. You can now take a subway deep into Pudong area for a half an hour, and when you emerge you are still buried by high rises and office buildings. Amazing.
